STORM UPDATE: The Highway Superintendent is reporting that all Town roads closed due to fallen trees that can be cleared have been cleared. The closures that remain are state roads, or roads that involve downed electrical wires, which is the case with Route 35 Van Rensalear to Rte. 118. Any fallen trees involving an electrical wire require NYSEG’s assistance and cannot be touched. This is hampering efforts in some areas.
NYSEG is reporting approximately 4,400 outages in Somers. They continue to tell me that crews will be in the area, but I’ve been all over and seen only a minimal presence. I just met with the County Executive who jointed me on a conference call with the Governor’s Office earlier. With a jammed shelter, a significant high-risk population and residents going on 7 days without power – we need NYSEG HERE AND WE NEED MORE RESOURCES. I’m doing everything I can to advocate for our community while coordinating storm recovery efforts and I know our other officials are out there fighting.
DRY ICE & SHELTER: Dry ice will be available at the Somers Middle/Intermediate School parking lot starting at 12:30 until 6PM. The Town's shelter at Heritage Hills remains open and the Red Cross will be providing food at 6.
TRAFFIC LIGHTS: Some traffic lights have been restored, but many are still out (PLEASE APPROACH THEM AS A 4-WAY STOP).
