The Town of Somers Engineering Department currently shares in the responsibility for reviewing all new subdivision (residential) and site plan (non-residential) applications and environmental permit applications submitted to the Planning Board by developers and residents.  Individual applications for modifications around the house which usually involve the issuance of a Building Permit (such as for a pool, an addition or installing a shed) may involve disturbance of environmentally sensitive lands (wetlands, wetland buffers, steep slopes, etc.). The Engineering Department must review each of these applications to determine if any environmental permits are necessary.  The Engineering Department also monitors all projects in Town from earth moving to completion of construction and ultimately to the point of dedication of the public facilities, such as Town roads and drainage facilities.
