Habitat of Westchester is an organization of thousands of volunteers who seek to eliminate poverty and homelessness throughout Westchester County, and to make decent, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and public action. Somers Litter Task Force (SLTF) was developed in 2012 by Suzy Moravick, Past President, to help keep Somers, New York, litter-free, environmentally responsible and beautiful. This was to be accomplished by changing people’s behavior through awareness campaigns and education, and by implementing proven ways to beautify our community. She was later joined by Annie Gullen, Co-President, Louis Ekaireb, Co-President, Richard Nash, Vice President, Barbara Knothe, Legal Council, Jack Gullen, Treasurer and Peter McManus, Board Member. In 2014 the SLTF became a 501(c)(3) under the name of Citizens for the Beautification of Somers, Inc. Historically, the SLTF organizes, promotes and supplies safety equipment for volunteer litter removal from roads within Somers. The Task Force works closely with the Town Board, Police, Town and State Hwy Departments, organized clubs and the schools. In 2022 the SLTF became the first affiliate of Keep America Beautiful in Westchester County and started using the DBA, Keep Somers Beautiful. Promotes community awareness and financial support for Somers school programs which enrich the educational experience in the public school and are not funded by the school budget or other school groups. Annual events include Golf Outing, Wine Tasting, Student Variety Show, Carnival Night, Blackjack Ball, and the Harlem Wizards Basketball Game. Awarded more than $1.2 million in grants and scholarships since its inception in 1994, including more than $100,000 in grants designated to install "Power Libraries" at all four schools, which are helping all district children learn in new ways, using technology. Other grants have supported diversity programs, educational trips, classroom materials and equipment, nature labs and art/tech lounges were children can display their work.

TEAM Tuskers Mentoring is a one-to-one mentoring program in the Somers Intermediate and Middle Schools. Students are paired with a caring adult from the community who has been screened, trained, and has passed a background check. Mentors meet with their mentees for an hour a week during the school year. Mentors serve as role models for the students and provide a safe and nurturing relationship where the student can learn from the wisdom of their mentor, enabling the mentee to be better prepared to face the challenges of today’s world.
