Somers is Stronger Than Hate

October 30, 2018

In light of the recent violence against the Jewish community in Pittsburgh, I’d like to reaffirm the Town’s steadfast position against anti-Semitism and hatred of any kind. In July of 2016 the Town of Somers passed an Anti-Semitism Resolution, joining a coalition of municipalities across the country to condemn anti-Jewish hatred in all its forms. The events over the weekend spurred our community to be more vigilant. The Somers Police Department has been in communication with the Hebrew Congregation of Somers; and, out of an abundance of caution, they have increased patrols around the synagogue.

We stand in unity with our Jewish community during this time of mourning. The Town of Somers will continue to do everything and anything in our power to ensure all residents, regardless of religion or background, are protected from violence and discrimination.
