VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Somers Meals on Wheels Program

The Somers Meals on Wheels Program  is looking for volunteers to help deliver hot meals to area seniors who are unable to get out. The program currently serves over 100 clients and we couldn’t operate without our devoted volunteers. Meals leave Van Tassell house at 11:00 am Monday through Friday. Each route takes between 1 and 2 hours.  If you think you can offer your time for 1 day a week or if you think you may be able to sub for others, please call 232-0807.

Senior Volunteers Needed

Seniors looking to volunteer, please call Senior Volunteer Services at 948-6069 for current positions and locations.

Partners in Prevention

The Town of Somers Partners in Prevention provides educational and preventive education on alcohol and drugs.  There is an increase in the use of opiates, narcotics, prescription medications, cocaine and heroin according to educators and substance abuse counselors among adolescents and young adults.  If you are interested in joining our team and assisting in this very important cause, please email the Council Secretary at dschirmer@somersny.com.

Court Internship Program:

The Court has a volunteer intern program for high school students. Interns are introduced to all aspects of the Court’s operations and are permitted to attend public court sessions as observers, including criminal, civil and traffic calendars, and jury trials. Interested students should contact the Court Clerk, Barbara Lloyd, at 914-277-8225.

RideConnect Volunteer Driver Program

Somers Holocaust Memorial CommissionThe interfaith Somers Holocaust Memorial Commission, founded in 1993 to perpetuate and commemorate the memory of the Holocaust, promote respect for human rights, and fight genocide, bigotry and hatred, is looking for new members to serve on its Board of Directors. Individuals willing to attend monthly meetings and contribute time, effort and ideas in support of its vital mission serving Somers, North Salem and Brewster schools and communities are encouraged to join. Anyone interested please email the President, Steve Waldinger, or send a note to him at Somers Holocaust Memorial Commission, Box 260, Somers, NY 10589.
